If you feel unsafe
If you are in danger, call your local emergency number first. Then report the conversation in the app and write to us. A person reviews every report within 24 hours, and threats of harm go to the authorities.
Report, mute or block
- Report: long-press any message, or use the menu in a chat. Your mail app opens with the report addressed to us. A person, not an algorithm, reviews each one within 24 hours, and the other person is never told who reported them.
- Mute: hides someone for the rest of the session. It clears when the session ends.
- End chat: closes a conversation. They can't reach you again for the rest of that session.
- Block: stops someone from reaching you. If you have blocked someone, the app may show you a general warning when they could be nearby again, with no name, distance or direction.
Common questions
Will the other person know if I'm not interested?
No. If you don't answer, or stop at any step, nothing is sent. To them it looks the same as you walking out of Bluetooth range.
Who can see me?
When Bitnod is on, people nearby who also have it on see your session name: two random words that change every session. No photo, no profile, no location. Turn on Discreet mode in Settings and your phone only listens: nobody sees you until you message them.
Does Bitnod know where I've been?
No. The app does not use location, and our server never learns where you used it or whom you met. See the privacy policy.
Why does the app need Bluetooth?
Bluetooth finds nearby people who are also open to meeting, phone to phone. The app never asks for your location.
The app doesn't find anyone.
Keep the app open on screen: for now it works only while it is open. Make sure Bluetooth is on and that you have turned on being open to meeting.
How do I delete my data?
Bitnod has no accounts. Triple-tap your name to erase everything on your phone, or see Delete your data.
